Aarthi Subramanian has been appointed as Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) new Chief Operating Officer (COO). She is the new holder of this crucial position following N. Ganapathy Subramaniam’s retirement in May 2024.
Aarthi’s new role started on May 1, 2024. To take up this position, she stepped down from her job as the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) at Tata Sons. She also gave up her positions on the boards of several Tata companies like Tata Capital, Tata Electronics, Tata AIA Life Insurance, and Infiniti Retail (Croma).
A Long Journey at TCS
Aarthi started her career at TCS in 1989 as a graduate trainee. She worked in numerous different roles such as analyst, project manager, and subsequently as a senior executive. She was responsible for significant tasks in account management and global delivery. She also worked in several countries like Sweden, India, the US, and Canada, leading large technology projects and teams.
One of her most important positions was as the Head of Delivery for TCS’s Retail & Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) business, where she oversaw several significant client accounts and led teams to provide great customer service.
Aarthi joined the board of TCS in 2015, and in 2017, she shifted to Tata Sons as the CDO. She facilitated digital transformation across Tata Group businesses.
Education and Personal Life
Aarthi has a B.Tech in Computer Science from NIT Warangal and a Master’s in Engineering Management from the University of Kansas in the USA.
Apart from being a professional success, she is famous for being fitness-conscious. She is also interested in listening to music, movie-watching, and reading management books.
A Trusted Leader
Aarthi holds 5,600 shares in TCS, valued at approximately Rs 1.8 crore, and she was paid a sitting fee of Rs 2.7 lakh in the previous year for her services as a director on the TCS board. She has been instrumental in establishing the SAP Center of Excellence in Chennai and has been in leadership roles with a mandate to enhance delivery and governance in the company.
She will be assisted closely by TCS CEO K. Krithivasan as she takes up her new role as COO to drive the company forward.
