Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has announced that its latest AI chatbot, Grok-2, is now available for free to all users on the social media platform X. Previously, the chatbot was only available to Premium subscribers, but now everyone can access it. However, Premium and Premium+ users will still have benefits such as higher usage limits and priority access to new features.

The updated Grok-2 has various new attributes. Among the most critical ones include its capacity to search for web documents and cite these sources appropriately. With X’s platform now available, Grok 2 can now comprehend current events or global real-time information gathering and pulling information both from the X platform and other online references. This would allow consumers to cross-reference their ideas and explore other avenues of seeking knowledge.

Another exciting update is Grok-2’s ability to generate creative images and memes. Using the “Aurora” model, Grok-2 can now create more photorealistic pictures. Users can also generate creative versions of themselves based on their X profile with the new “draw me” feature. Other users can try this feature as well by clicking on posts where others have used it.

Grok-2 also introduces a “Grok” button that would appear on posts in the timelines of users. This would give users a deeper look into the content, letting them understand the context of the post and participate in real-time discussions happening on X.

This free rollout of Grok-2 comes after a testing phase in certain regions last month. Originally launched as a witty AI assistant last year, Grok was initially available only to Premium users. Now, with its wider availability, Grok-2 enters a competitive space alongside other popular AI assistants such as Microsoft’s Copilot, Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Anthropic’s Claude.

With these new features, xAI aims to position itself as a leader in AI technology and attract more users to the X platform. This move shows Musk’s ambition to make xAI a major player in the rapidly growing field of artificial intelligence.
