Meta has introduced its generative AI-powered model that can create short videos, complete with audio from text prompts and photos.
Termed as ‘Meta Movie Gen’, the tech giant hailed the new platform as a breakthrough.
Apart from generating new clips, Meta said ‘Movie Gen’ can also create custom videos from images or take an existing video and change different elements of it.
Movie Gen can also be used to edit existing footage and change the style and transitions or add things that didn’t previously exist.
“Our model achieves state-of-the-art results when it comes to creating personalized videos that preserve human identity and motion,” Meta said.
“Imagine animating a ‘day in the life’ video to share on Reels and editing it using text prompts or creating a customised animated birthday greeting for a friend and sending it to them on Whatsapp,” the company added.
However, the company didn’t disclose the announcement date of the new platform. Meta’s chief product officer, Chris Cox, wrote that the company “[isn’t] ready to release this as a product anytime soon,” as it’s still expensive and generation time is too long.
Meta also said that this platform couldn’t replace the original work of artists.
“While there are many exciting use cases for these foundation models, it’s important to note that generative AI is not a replacement for the work of artists and animators,” Meta said in a post.
Meta’s entry into video space increases the competitive intensity as Google and OpenAI are also working on similar platforms.
