Ather Energy, the electric two-wheeler manufacturer, announced its plan to establish a third manufacturing facility in Maharashtra at an investment of more than Rs 2,000 crore.

According to Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, the new plant at Bidkin in Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) will produce electric two-wheelers and battery packs.

“It is a more than Rs 2,000 crore investment, generating employment of around 4,000. This state-of-the-art plant will annually produce up to 1 million units of vehicles and battery packs both,” said Fadnavis, in a post on X.

Ather Energy operates two factories in Hosur, Tamil Nadu—one for making batteries and the other for assembling vehicles. These facilities will continue producing battery packs and vehicles, with capacities of 430,000 and 420,000 units per year, respectively. Ather plans to establish a new plant in Maharashtra to reach more markets across India by cutting logistics costs and speeding up product deliveries to customers.

Since 2021, Ather Energy’s factories in Hosur have been the main manufacturing centre for the company, meeting demand from all over India.

“With our expanding product portfolio and the increasing consumer demand for our scooters, we decided to strategically diversify our production capabilities to an additional location that will be closer to more markets in the country. The new manufacturing facility will not only rationalise our logistic cost but will also hasten the delivery of finished products to our customers,” Swapnil Jain, Co-founder & CTO at Ather Energy said.

Currently, Ather offers high-performance electric scooters like the 450X, 450S, and 450 Apex. Recently, the company introduced its first family-oriented scooter, the Rizta.

Amid growing demand, Ather Energy has been boosting its production capacity, expanding its product portfolio along with expansion of its retail outlets. Ather currently has over 200 Experience Centres and over 1,900 fast chargers, Ather Grids across India.
