State-owned NMDC Ltd., India’s largest iron ore producer, reported a sharp jump in July 2026 output even as dispatches barely moved, according to its provisional production and sales disclosure filed under SEBI’s Regulation 30..
The Numbers
NMDC produced 4.06 million tonnes (MT) of iron ore in July 2026, up from 3.09 MT in July 2025 — a year-on-year increase of over 31%. Sales, however, were largely unchanged at 3.40 MT against 3.46 MT a year earlier, a marginal decline. The data suggests mining activity accelerated even as dispatches failed to keep pace during the month.
On a cumulative basis for the first four months of FY27 (April–July), production stood at 19.16 MT compared with 15.09 MT in the same period last year — growth of roughly 27%. Cumulative sales rose to 15.15 MT from 14.98 MT.
State-wise Breakup
Chhattisgarh: July production climbed to 2.55 MT from 1.89 MT a year ago, while sales rose to 2.50 MT from 2.15 MT. Cumulative production stood at 13.78 MT versus 10.08 MT, and cumulative sales at 11.79 MT versus 10.29 MT.
Karnataka: July production rose to 1.51 MT from 1.20 MT, but sales dipped to 0.90 MT from 1.31 MT. Cumulative production reached 5.38 MT against 5.01 MT, while cumulative sales slipped to 3.36 MT from 4.69 MT.
Most of the overall production increase came from the Chhattisgarh mines, while Karnataka’s output grew too but saw sales decline, dragging down the month’s overall dispatch numbers.
